The Hayabusa had a service a couple of hundred miles back which was slightly overdue, however now it has been done (with a new rear tyre) it feels like a different bike!
Clutch and brakes feel nicer and it’s surprising how much difference a new rear tyre makes. When you commute everyday it’s not always easy to realise how much your tyres have deteriorated over time.
Whilst the bike was being serviced (thanks to Laguna Performance) I had the loan of a 2010 Kawasaki ER6N with 500 miles on the clock. Straight away I felt at home as I have always liked the ‘naked’ style of bike. It took me back to the days of my GSX1400 – in riding position at least!
The Kawasaki is nice and light and the riding position helps when you are commuting through rush hour traffic, which is where I think this bike is most at home. It was fun for some of the twistier sections of a smooth ‘A’ road but its limits were quickly met, mainly due to its engine which is perfect for town work but not really suited to fast scratching or motorway work – but I have jumped on it from a Hayabusa! For a newer rider or someone who needs something economical for a commute, it makes alot of sense. However if you need to do mileage, you will probably be better off looking elsewhere!
Back to the Busa – I have recently noticed what I think is slight clutch slip. The revs feed in but the speed is slightly behind. I’ve got it booked in and I’m sure the guys at Laguna will be able to get it sorted. I foresee new clutch plates, after all, with the power commander and custom fuel map there is alot of torque going through the Busa’s clutch – think I may have to get slightly heavier duty parts!
